MDD is diagnosed based on symptoms like persistent sadness, loss of interest, fatigue, and sleep disturbance. Postpartum depression can qualify as MDD if symptoms meet the diagnostic criteria. For insurance approval, most providers require a PHQ-9 depression score of 20 or higher, which Brain Wellness Center can assess during your evaluation.
Most County Health Plans currently cover TMS only for MDD. Patients with postpartum symptoms may qualify if they meet the diagnostic criteria for MDD.
Aetna covers TMS for MDD but not specifically for postpartum depression. If postpartum symptoms meet MDD criteria, patients may qualify.
Magellan covers TMS only for MDD, not postpartum depression. Still, qualifying postpartum patients may be eligible if symptoms meet MDD standards.
