Cigna restricts TMS coverage to MDD. While postpartum depression isn’t directly covered, qualifying MDD symptoms from postpartum patients may be eligible.
Insurance typically approves TMS coverage for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), which includes postpartum depression if it meets clinical criteria. If your postpartum depression qualifies under MDD, TMS may be covered. Brain Wellness Center will verify eligibility during your consultation.
Although the FDA has approved TMS for treating depression, Blue Shield currently covers TMS only for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), not specifically for postpartum depression. However, many individuals with postpartum symptoms meet MDD criteria and may still qualify through Brain Wellness Center.
At this time, most insurance plans do not cover TMS for individuals under 18 years of age. Some exceptions may be made for those 15 or older depending on the insurance plan. Brain Wellness Center can discuss treatment options on a case-by-case basis for younger mothers.
